Looks almost new, perfect engine, new timing belt. the van is in perfect like new condition. I have a mint condition 2003 Honda Odyssey with 114000 miles on it which I have had since it was new. If anyone knows about any class action lawsuit against honda in this regard, please let me know. Honda dealership wants $5800 to put in a new transmission. Seriously, you want the consumer to have the wheels lock up due to a faulty transmission and get into a car accident before you decide to do anything. Their case manager said that unless the wheels locked up on you while driving, it's not considered a safety recall. Honda should have put in a new transmission in it at 90k instead of just the oil jet kit which wasn't going to do much against a poor quality transmission. This is the worst Honda I have ever owned. Honda says they washed their hands off with this by putting in the oil jet which is supposed to lubricate the transmission further from getting hot and failing. It eventually failed now 3 years down the road and it would shut itself off on the road while driving or while standing at an intersection. I'm very disappointed.Odyssey reputation?įlashing "D" light accompanied by rough 1-2 shifts and delayed 2-3 & 3-4 shifts.ĭealer replaced transmission temperature sensor. This van (2003 Honda Odyssey) had the so called oil jet for the transmission recall done in June of 2013 with close to 90k miles on it at that time, however, the damage had already been done to the transmission by then. There were some signs of it at about 112,000 miles but it went from signs to complete slipping and missing from 2nd to 3rd gear in a weeks time.barely got it to the shop. American Honda Motors would not assist with cost of repair knowing high failure rates on this transmission. Ran fine up to failure, then hard shifting and high-revving. Typical transmission failure on 03 Odyssey. Engine check light on. Transmission failed to operate - slipped in forward gears and would not engage in reverse. Shuddering and not downshifting properly. The traction control warning light and check engine lights came on. approximately $3000 for the tranny part of the repairs. Had entire transmission rebuilt, including new drum. Transmission slipping after annual checkup. Was slipping and we had a reliable independent transmission rebuild it rather than the dealer which was much more expensive. It would have been between $2800 - $3200 to fix so we opted to trade it in.ģrd clutch pressure solenoid faulted and had to be replaced Honda replacement is not great and may require a second transmission soon.įLASHING D LIGHT ON TRANS. transmissionĮngine light and TCS light came on initially and transmission began to slip transmission then completely gone would no longer engage at all replaced transmission and control module Replaced transmission and control module Had to take it back every 6 months for additional major repairs. Transmission went out and was slipping until it wouldn't go Transmission gone, required full replacement (known problems) Oil injector was added but no apparent "issues" Second gear recall was done around 60k miles. Replace transmission with Factory rebuilt (not the same as original) One engine mount replaced. Infamous Odyssey transmission bearing support failure. I think dirt got into it?Ĭaught a fast drip transmission fluid leak from axle seal before it drained the fluid and ruined the transmission (cost under $200 to repair). I am wondering if the trans problem occured when Sears did some work on my trans lines. Use sea breeze transmission fluid and has so far extended the life by more than 10,000 miles in cold weather. Immediately pulled over and towed to shop. When my transmission was replaced, these lines were not. I believe also referred to as cooler lines. Then they flushe it, and the next day it wouldn't shift. I kept being told that the shop couldn't find a problem. I have been complaining to the dealer for over 2 years abou the transmission. Leak fixed at no charge.ĭefective transmission, started with rough shifting and increased in noise and severity. Transmission leaking fluid after rebuild, 10 months ago. Tranny slipping when upshifting into 3rd, would often not upshift into 4th Was planning on repairing it myself, but issue became too bad before I could get to it. This is a known design issue for this model. Drained and refilled 2x and switched 3rd and 4th gear pressure solenoids. Rebuilt transmission.
